The Brief
KI have provided a bespoke storage solution with timeless appeal for FaulknerBrown Architects with their KI 800 Series storage.
After a long period of sustained growth, FaulknerBrown has undertaken a significant internal re-modelling of its Dobson House offices in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. They needed to improve the efficiency of the building and to provide an environment which supports creativity.
Our Solution
The KI 800 Series range has entirely flush fronts made possible by a unique patented slide suspension with an integral touch latch mechanism. FaulknerBrown was able to create runs of cabinets without pulls providing a cleaner, more monolithic aesthetic look, without compromising functionality and flexibility. Large linear work benches for individual desk-based tasks alternate with banks of team storage. Each storage unit has a worktop capable of facilitating ad hoc meetings or acting as layout spaces for large format drawings.
An extensive consultation and analysis exercise was initially undertaken which reviewed storage requirements linked to working systems and task types, applied to both individual and group settings. The over-riding requirement of the exercise was for additional space and this was generated by lifting the plant onto the roof, which provided an additional 83m² of useable space.

With this in mind the selection of furniture and storage solutions needed to compliment our approach. Therefore when we assessed the various storage options in the market, we where looking for a well engineered product with timeless appeal. A product which was efficient with excellent load bearing characteristics. After reviewing the KI products we liked the flush door aesthetic, the efficiency ratings of the cabinets and finally as we wanted to store all of our project samples within the project teams the load capabilities of the lower drawer was excellent. We where also keen to get a well priced, high quality, well serviced solution. KI provided all of these attributes and we are very satisfied with the end result.
